Work for 1st & 2nd Class Mon. 11th - Fri. 15th May
Hello everyone!
I hope you all had a lovely weekend especially our 2nd class students who were to celebrate a special day on Saturday. The weather has been fabulous, so I would encourage you all to make the most of it while we can.
As workbooks have been distributed I am changing the format of this week’s work slightly. Again I would like you to remember your child’s physical and mental well-being is priority and if you cannot complete all the set work – not to worry just do what you can manage, but I strongly encourage daily reading. For extra reading material, sign into “Epic!” – A perfect opportunity to use screen time to support your child’s learning.
- English:
- 1st Class: Word Wise: Unit 15 pg.58-61
Reading: https://www.folensonline.ie/ Reading Zone
- 1st Class The Four Friends: King Midas pg.6 – 15 (2 pages a day)
- 2nd Class The Grumpy Teaspoon pg20-22 & pg24-26 (The Story of Chocolate & Master Man)
These stories have accompanying activities on pg23/27 – if your child is looking for additional work please give them a go – otherwise just reading the stories is satisfactory.
- Jolly Grammar pg. 60/61
- Handwriting (Big book) pg. 38 – 42
- The small handwriting book can be used at your own discretion, moving forward I will only be assigning work from the bigger workbook.
- Maths:
- 1st Class – Busy at Maths pg. 110, 112, 113, 114, 115
- 2nd Class – Busy at Maths "Money 2” pg. 130, 131, 132, 133, 134, 135
**Please note: I will be not be assigning certain chapters from Busy at Maths as they include concepts that can be quite tricky and I would prefer that the children are taught these during “face-to-face” class time. These chapters will be covered thoroughly when the children get back to school so please do not worry about them falling behind. The chapters that will be covered in the next school year are:
1st class: Addition 5 (pg.142 – 149) - addition with regrouping (carrying tens)
2nd class Subtraction 3 & Subtraction 4 (pg.136-138 & 152-155) – subtraction with renaming
Golden NS teaches subtraction differently to the examples laid out in the workbook so please ignore these chapters as your child will be using the borrow/payback method.
