Wildlife Rescue in Golden NS
A small hedgehog was spotted in our yard today by some of the children at break-time. Upon closer inspection, it was discovered that our little prickly friend was in trouble and was quite distressed. Ms O’Neill decided that a trip to the vet was warranted and so Harry Hedgehog was wrapped up in a warm scarf and brought to Arravet in Tipperary.
Once there, a piece of tightly-wound wire was removed from around Harry’s neck and it also transpired that Harry was, in fact, Henrietta!!
As the hibernation season has already begun, it was decided that it would be best not to return Henrietta to the wild as she was underweight and very dehydrated. Arravet contacted a wildlife charity called Hogsprickle who are based in Killaloe in Co. Clare and they have agreed to care for Henrietta over the winter months.
Many thanks to Arravet for treating Henrietta free of charge and to our SNA Ms. O’Neill for transporting her to the vet. A huge thanks also to the extremely vigilant and diligent boys in 4th class for first spotting Henrietta and insisting that an adult take a closer look at her! Their actions saved have undoubtedly saved Henrietta’s life and the should be very proud of themselves!!
