Remote Learning - Extended School Closure (January, 2021)
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Happy New Year to you and your family. I hope this finds you safe and well.
By now you will be aware of the minister's announcement that school closures have extended to Monday, 01st February. As a result, we will be returning to remote learning from Monday, 11th January. While the return to remote learning is not good news for children, parents or school staff, we have the consolation of knowing that we have delivered remarkably well from March to June 2020 and that we can do it again during the weeks ahead in 2021.
Remote Learning (Seesaw)
Remote learning will resume via Seesaw from next week. Each child has been given login details for their Seesaw account and has engaged in online activities since last term. Please contact the school via email at goldenns@yahoo.ie if you have misplaced these details.
Book Collections
It is imperative that your child’s textbooks return home immediately as the majority of work assigned will be textbook based.
Please collect your child’s books between 10.00a.m. and 11:00a.m. on either Monday, 11th or Tuesday, 12th January. Choose whichever day is suitable to you.
Parents of children from 1st to 4th class can collect their child’s books in the GAA Hall. Please entry/exit through the fire emergency doors at the side.
Parents of children in Jnr/Snr Infants & 5th/6th class can collect their child’s books at Ms. O’Briens classroom door. Please enter through the astroturf and exit through the steel gate.
Your child’s books will be prepared by their teacher and ready for a prompt collection. Parents are asked to social distance themselves in line with HSE guidelines and not congregate in small groups at these times. Provisions will not be in place to access the school for your child’s books from Tuesday.
Teaching and Learning
- Weekly plans will be set on Seesaw by class teachers in advance of each week (except for this coming Monday, 11th January on account of collecting books)
- Assigned work will be prioritised to core subjects (Maths, English & Gaeilge) and will be textbook based mostly
- SESE projects, Art/Music/Drama and P.E activities will be assigned via Seesaw at the teachers discretion over this period
- Seesaw will be used to facilitate pupils to upload chosen items of work each week
- Children are asked to choose one item of work to upload for each subject covered that particular week. You are not expected to share every item of work completed
- Teachers are available to correspond with pupils and offer support/feedback via Seesaw during each school day
- Teaching of curriculum will continue right up to the end of school year
- Standardised Testing & Student Reports will be postponed by one month to late June, 2021
Special Education Teachers (SET)/Special Needs Assistants (SNA)
SET’s/SNA’s will make contact directly via email to assign work for children. They will also be available on Seesaw to correspond with pupils.
Positive & Healthy Approach to Remote Learning
It is vitally important to understand that this period of remote learning should not place an extra burden on parents and children. School staff will make every effort to create an online learning environment and assign work that requires a stress free approach in completing activities/tasks from home.
If you need clarification or further detail on any aspect during this school closure, you can contact the school by email at goldenns@yahoo.ie or principalgoldenns@gmail.com.
Wishing you and your family every good health during this time.
Le meas,
James McCarthy
